Raridan Angel Toby Jay'Cyn Vehicles

All the characters are now finished, save for Angel's second gauntlet with the blades extended. I've also finished the teams Humvee and a motorcycle for Jay'cyn. Any changes made from here on out, should only be minor tweaks, that I doubt I'll bother documenting. Just click the links above, or the pictures below, to get to each one's page.

What's all this here noise about?

The Quntum Rip 1/18 scale project focuses on the creation of alternate versions of existing Quantum Rip characters, as well as new "QR style" characters from commercially available 1/18th scale action figures. Most of the figures used are the newer 4" tall 25th anniversay GI Joe figures. These were chosen for their small size, high level of articulation, and availability of accessories.

My current plan is three characters from the comic, and one new character. I also plan to repaint a 1/18th scale vehicle into standard SRU blue and white livery. I'm currently deciding between a slope backed Humvee, similar to the one used in the comic, during the rescue of Gen, and U.S. Marine style LAV. The LAV is an eight wheel drive armored vehicle, with a gun turret on top. Most of these vehicles come with driver figures, and that would probably become a fifth member of the team. Originally I was only going to make Angel, but I saw the upcoming Bazooka figure, I knew he'd be the perfect base for Toby. The rest of the project grew from there.

While I may make use of a few original GI Joe accesories, and Angel's weapons will of course be scratchbuilt, but nearly all the other weapons will be sourced from Marauder "Gun Runners." I've already placed and recieved one order from them, and they will most certainly be seeing my business, again. I can not recomend them highly enough. They're products are well made, not too brittle, or too flexible, with very nice detail. They ship quick, and even tossed in a bonus gun and ammo magazine with my first order. They also hold paint, very well.

Every character kitbash I have planned for this project will require some level of resculpting. Angel needs the most. This will be accomplished through a combination of carving off existing detail, and adding new details. On some parts I'll use conventional model fillers, like Mr. Surfacer, but most of the new detail will be created with  Kneadatite blue/yellow epoxy resin tape. This is a two part epoxy, that comes in a single two-colored strip of material. Once the two parts are mixed, it turns an even shade of green, and offers a good one to two hours of working time. It remains soft enough to reshape for several hours, but will have lost of it's ability to adhere to a new surface, by then. After six to 12 hours curing time, it becomes a stiff rubbery substance, similar to the softer plastics in used in a lot of newer toys, including the GI Joes that I'm modifying. Kneadatite blue/yellow (there's a harder drying brown/yellow compound) is most often reffered to as "Green Stuff" or sometimes "Kneadatite Green." I'll probably be using the names Kneadatite, and Green Stuff interchangeably.
